Perth · Buses and trains

Live times,
in every app.

Perth's buses and trains are already tracked live, but apps outside Transperth aren't allowed to use that data. So they show the timetable instead of where your bus actually is. Add your name to ask for that to change.

Why it matters

Choice

Use the app that suits you, whether that’s bigger text, a simpler layout, or one that works with your screen reader.

New ideas

Desk displays, café screens and school boards could all show when the next bus is really coming.

Catch up with the east

Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane already share their live times with any app that asks.

Questions

What are you asking for?+

That the Public Transport Authority (PTA) lets other apps and displays show the live bus and train times it already has, the way Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane do. Right now, apps outside Transperth can’t get them.

Doesn’t the Transperth app already have live tracking?+

It does, and that’s the point: the real-time data exists. It just isn’t open to anyone else, so other journey planners, accessibility apps and displays are stuck with the timetable.

Who will see my name?+

Your first name and suburb show next to your comment if you leave one. The count, and some first names, suburbs and comments, will be shared with the PTA and the WA Minister for Transport. Your email is never shown or shared.

Is this an official petition?+

Not a parliamentary one. It’s a public count we’ll take to the PTA and the Minister to show how many people want this. If we start a petition with the WA Parliament, everyone who ticked “email me” will hear about it first.

Who is behind this?+

Rabbit Loop, a small Perth maker behind RL Transit and the hobbyist departure board. Both use timetable times today and would switch to live times the day they’re allowed.

Why do comments take a while to appear?+

Every comment is read before it goes up, to keep the page friendly and free of spam. Your name is counted straight away once you confirm your email.
